I was looking for a hotel in Paris, a comfortable room within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower in an area with sidewalk cafés and shops. I had a recommendation for the Cler Hotel, and wow did it waaaay more than meet my requirements! The updated hotel is on quaint Rue Cler Street, a popular pedestrian market street that felt like a small village in the middle of Paris! (In fact, before leaving, I made this video of a stroll down the street. I hope you enjoy it!)
Exploring Rue Cler Street
After checking in the hotel, my husband and I ventured out to Rue Cler Street, our home base for the next 5 days. Within a few steps of our hotel were two fresh produce markets, a grocery store, a crêperie, an ATM, several restaurants and sidewalk cafés, a cheese shop, and a gelato shop. I was thinking we had all the major food groups covered, and then we discovered the pastries and chocolates too!
Rue Cler is a thriving pedestrian street, only a few blocks long. It gets vehicle traffic each morning as shopkeepers receive deliveries of fresh groceries–like the beautiful fruits displayed at the produce stands!
In addition to the wide selection of restaurants and bars, cafés, bakeries, grocers, and specialty foods, Rue Cler is home to a variety of retail stores such as floral shops, a souvenir shop, wine shops, an organic skincare store, clothing and shoe stores, a pharmacy, and general merchandise stores.
And when the weather is nice and the cafés get busy, the outside seating spills out into the street!
Here’s my window view of Rue Cler Street from our room at the Cler Hotel. Glimpses of life in Paris on this little market street!
Favorite Treats on Rue Cler
You’ll find an amazing selection of food offerings and indulgent foods on Rue Cler. One of my favorite street foods was the delicious crêpes made at Crêperie Ulysee en Gaule. I enjoyed both the ham and cheese and the chocolate crêpe. They have a stand in front of the restaurant for crepes to go, and you can watch as they are prepared.
A specialty dessert shop named Maison de la Chantilly caught our eye. We ordered these white chocolate and whipped cream beverages. Oh my goodness!!
And yes there’s even a post office on Rue Cler, the perfect stop for shipping all those extra items home. Our French phrasebook was helpful there, and the employees and customers were patient with us. Buy a pre-paid shipping box, fill it, return it to the post office. Easy!
Great Location for Paris Stay
But the primary reason we chose Rue Cler for our stay was the great location. It’s in the 7th arrondissement (district) and within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower and some other popular tourist sites such as Musée d’Orsay and Musée Rodin. And the metro station Ecole Militaire was just a few short blocks away. Perfect!
Rue Cler, the little cobblestone street that seemed more like a village than a Paris street, had everything we needed for a fantastic stay. It was such a good stay, that we halfway wished we could STAY. For us, it was more than just cafés, shops, our cute hotel, and easy access to the metro.
Staying on Rue Cler had a warm and cozy sense of being at home. Perfect for our time in Paris.
